Thank you
Submitted by Martin Hyde on Mon, 15/10/2007 - 1:00pm.To each of you in my riding who penciled an X beside my name, thank you. Whether you were voting for me or the party, I personally very much appreciate your doing so. I ran in this election because I believe in the ideals and the platform of the Green Party, but I've learned that there is an unavoidably personal aspect to voting for a local candidate, so again, thank you for your vote.
On a provincial note, the election's come and gone, and while we still have no representation at Queen's Park (despite the fact that over 350,000 people voted for the Green Party) thanks to everyone who showed up at the polls and cast a ballot for the Green Party, our MPPs know they risk losing 8% of the vote if they don't do more for the province environmentally.
Finally, there will be other elections, possibly soon federally, and again in four years provincially. The more people who get involved the more people we will have to choose our candidates from, and the more people we will have to support our candidates. If you're interested in helping make Ontario a world leader in environmentally sustainable living join the Green Party of Ontario and/or the Green Party of Canada (they're two separate entities!), or just sign up at the GPO or GPC websites.
If you'd like to get involved with the Ottawa West-Nepean Greens (except in terms of official membership the GPC and GPO are essentially the same group of people in Ottawa West-Nepean) send me an email! I'll let you know what we're doing between the elections and how you can get involved. We'd love to have more people bringing in ideas and helping make us as relevant as possible locally, and stronger provincially!
Thanks again for your support.
Martin
